Our Story
About Maren
Maren is a coastal seasonal kitchen on the Dakar waterfront, opened in 2014 by chef Léa Sarr. What began as a twelve-seat counter where the morning market decided the menu has grown into a full dining room, but the idea has never changed: cook close to the source, let the seasons set the card, and serve every plate without hurry.
Our menu moves with the coast. Fish comes from boats we know by name, and produce travels from farms within an hour's drive. We cure, ferment, and preserve in-house so that each season stretches a little further, and so that even in the lean months the plates stay bright. The tasting menu runs seven courses with an optional wine pairing, and a short à la carte selection is available at the counter.
Maren is for diners who want to eat well without ceremony — regulars who sit at the counter, visitors exploring Dakar, and small parties marking a long evening. We seat up to six per table and hold a walk-in tasting counter each night from 21:30.
The kitchen is built by a small team that has worked together for years, led by Léa and grounded in the producers, fishermen, and growers of the Senegalese coast. We are proud to feed our city and the travelers who find us.
